Are you sure?? Got to the TVOC forum, find a long topic with multiple pages. Click on the first page and the first post will be the earliest. Click on the last page and the last post will be the latest.

i don't think that's what Mayfly meant - well that's not how i read it anyway.

i think she means that, when viewing the list of threads/topics within the specific area ("Anything Vulcan") for example, the list doesn't necessarily start with the oldest (or first alphabetically) thread at the top, but with the 'most-recently-posted-in' thread.

i don't think the multiple-page issue is an issue at all really - only my opinion

Was thinking about that connection issue earlier. You'll need to keep an eye on the number of connections to the new DB (you might now be wholly responsible for it now it's dedicated). Off the top of my head I can't remember how you do this. The cause might be dodgy code somewhere on the forum, ie a connection not being destroyed when it's done with, so each time you search or view an item a new connection is established. It could be that it's keeping connections open to be reused.

but I had noticed that if it said on the board index eg; Ian M had posted at 12.30 indicating it was the last post in that section, it wasn't neccessarly the top one when you went to read it, or have I missed an option to do this somewhere?

Look down at the bottom of the page, you can change the order of posts and stuff

Mayfly, as a rider to IanM's suggestion. If you go to "Control Panel" at the top of the page, then "Board Preferences", then "Edit Display Options" the 2nd and 3rd groups down enable you to order the topics and posts in the order you want.

you can't in the one showing at the top of site admin section, but the same thread shows in all the other catogories & you can in them, it will then show in the master thread in site admin

Different provider by name, but I think they are more than just "partners" as advertised ... more likely share the same parent company. But already, the Customer service is excellent (well I am on a months free trial and they DO want me to PAY next month )

From my testing, I think this happens when you dont tick "Log me on automatically each visit " when you log in to the forums. If you are logged into the forums, you should be able to go directly to chat. If its not keeping you logged in - you still have troubles with your cookies (serves you right for buying cheap ones at Asda )

To be honest Wedgy I'm still having problems with login I thought I had sorted it & it was me but I've had to login 3-4 times today even when I've I left the page open -Is there a time for inactivity thatslogs you out?

anyway I've close down EI7 logged in, asked it to remember me but it's doing exactly the same as I said above
