A Quick Question:::::::::

Postby Dan4th » Thu Sep 06, 2012 11:44 am

For the past number of days the
bot called "Gnip" has been on the
site almost non-stop......

What's up with that??????????

Yes, I had noticed GNIPs presence too!

I believe Wedgy can choose what Bots view the site and the areas in which they can glean info and data.

Perhaps Wedgy has been POSSESSED by
Gnip! Is it possible he requires some sort
of an exorcism?????????

I certainly HOPE not!!!!!!

Still want to know why it's on here all the
time and appears as a "Member" and not
a "Bot"..........

Both RLN and Mayfly are correct - and I only allow bots that may have a positive impact on IA.

(Gnip aggregates any posts of interest (that are in the public areas) for use in social media/apps for anyone with interests in areas such as aviation.

Its not online now .... but certainly seems correctly classified as a bot in its offline state. Are you saying it shows as a regular member when active?
Its online most of the time, purely because its a machine and machines never sleep (Im sure thats a line from The Terminator :P )
Its always been around, but only recently did I 'classify' it with IA (therefore you now see it in online members), which means I can further control what it does/sees.

I think I can see what Dan is getting at.

On my "Who is online" page, Gnip shows in grey, like a Bot, but in non-italic text, like a member. The totals at the top suggest IA is counting Gnip as a member, not a hidden member, and would therefore show on Dan4th's screen.

Could this be a "feature" of the recent upgrade, Wedgy?
Sooty

XM655 has four of them, all serviceable.

Unlike all the other bots, however,
Gnip shows-up as a Registered User,
at least on my Board Index.....

Does this mean that Gnip has access
to the entire site?????

Eureka! Sooty has it. In setting Gnip up, I didnt hide him from general view (italics) like other bots.

Will rectify later.

We got there in the end - I'm a little slow in the head this week (but faster on the feet ;) )
