Mum was cleaning out some of my nana's things last week and we found an interesting item.

It's 23 and 3/4 inches long (someone had a tiny waste

We have no idea of it's history, mum seems to think it's something to do with nursing and the boer war, but I can't find anything on the internet that might shed any light, other than some ebay auctions of belt clasps.
We think it belonged to my Great Grandmother, but we'v really no idea.
The buckles are Birmingham stirling silver, and filthy so as you can see I've been polishing them (only done one so far.

The coins are African Shillings (4x 1 shilling coins. 4x 2 shillings and 1x 2 1/2 shilling) from 1897.

It's a beautiful item, just needs a good clean. I'd love to know what it is and why we have it but sadly there's no family members to ask now

Anyway though I'd share the pics.
