HELP FOR HEROES: 'Steam Special' Saturday 8th October

Postby 34053 » Sat Sep 24, 2011 3:57 pm

This year's 'Steam Special' 6024 'King Edward I' will run from Hereford to Birmingham Moor Street (the train having been diesel-hauled from London Paddington) via Severn Tunnel Junction; Swindon; Oxford and Banbury. There will be a layover (of between 60 and 90 minutes) at Birmingham Moor Street whilst the train heads for Stourbridge Junction, where 60163 'Tornado' will take over for the return leg back to London.

The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust is providing 'Tornado' for free; so is Jeremy Hoskins, owner of 'King Edward I'; Network Rail will waive any 'track access' fees. 'Bells & Two Tones' will be sponsoring the watering provisions for both Locomotives and DB Schenker is providing the ' Royal Scot' coach stock at no cost.

This Excursion is being organised by 'Steam Dreams:

I will post the 'Timings' and Route nearer the time.

Wonderful news Ray, what a great way to raise funds for such a good cause!

Latest info (in PWs absence) is that this has been postponed until 25th Feb 2011 due to 'gauging issues'.

Fear not, Mama Wedgy and I have been away for a weeks' holiday in the Isle of Wight. Back in circulation again, but for only a short while - I am returning to Swanage next week! (Never a dull moment!!).
