Swanage Railway: Four 'Bulleids' in Steam?

Postby 34053 » Tue Aug 30, 2011 6:30 pm

Here's a date for you Diary:

The 'mouth watering' prospect of there being at least Three 'Bulleids' (maybe Four) at Swanage Railway on Saturday 15th October.

There is a Main Line Steam Excursion from London Victoria to Swanage with (hopefully) 'Battle of Britain Class' 34067 'Tangmere' - details below:

http://www.railwaytouring.net/uk-day-tr ... nage-belle

Also, there could be 'Battle of Britain Class' 34070 'Manston' and 'West Country Class' 34028 'Eddystone' and (dare I suggest) 'Battle of Britain Class' 34053 'Sir Keith Park' (?????) 'in steam' at the Railway that day. Watch this space - I will keep you informed!

Oh dear, not good news I'm sorry to say:

- 34053 'Sir Keith Park' will definetly not be ready for 15th October.

- 34067 'Tangmere' has been substituted by A4 Pacific 'Dominion of New Zealand' (aka 60019 'Bittern') on the Steam Excursion from London to Swanage.

Therefore, it will be left to 'resident' Bulleids 'Manston' and 'Eddystone' to 'fly the flag'.

Ah well, it was a brilliant prospect at the time! Maybe some other date in the future?

It is now clear that 34067 'Tangmere' WILL be hauling this Excursion next Saturday (NOT 'Dominion of New Zealand'. Not sure where that 'rumour' came from!).There will, therefore, be Three Bulleids 'in steam' that Day. However, the Excursion will now start from London Euston (NOT Victoria) and return to Kensington Olympia (NOT Victoria). I will post 'Timings' and Route as soon as they are confirmed.

Latest News:

70013 'Oliver Cromwell' will now be heading the 'Outward' journey from London Euston to Swanage, with 34067 'Tangmere' doing the 'Return' leg.

As soon as the 'Timings' and route are relaeased, I will post the link.

Still no final Timings published yet on the 'uksteaminfo' website. However, in the mean time, here is a link to the website of The Railway Touring Company (Operator of this Main Line Excursion to Swanage):

http://www.railwaytouring.net/uk-day-tr ... nage-belle

This shows an arrival time of 1405 at Swanage (on Saturday 15th October) and a departure time of 1620. (I will be there to see this).
