Thank you for the link to the photos Ray. Will it be a 2 crane lift in order to wheel the chassis?

Yes, definetly a Crane lift, but only a single Mobile Crane. SLL have got it down to a 'fine art' now, this being their 9th major Restoration/Overhaul project.

The next bit of 'fun' is getting all three sets of Driving Wheels lined up exactly, to accept the Coupling Rods. (I know, I was involved with that on SKP, in February 2010!!).

An 'add on extra' Volunteer Session was held at Herston Works last week which again (due to other commitments) unfortunately, I was unable to attend. Some pics have been published on the Southern Locomotives Ltd website, showing some of the work that was carried out, including one of the Boiler (being Restored on Teeside) . Here is the link (Pics 147 to 156 incl:

Very nice work seeing it coming along so well it's making me want to build one I have been researching and found plans and parts for a "rebuilt design" bulleid it's a few years off yet but I am thinking of building a 5" gauge one :)

I am fast becoming a big fan myself I must say tho the rebuilt version is way more good looking so it has to be a sir Keith park for me rather than squadron :)

I was unable to attend the September 'Volunteer Session' at Herston Works last week. However, here are some pics which have just been published on the Southern Locomotives Ltd website, showing some of the work that was done. There are some interesting photos of the chain driven valve gear (a unique feature of the 'unrebuilt'/'original' Bulleid Pacifics) together with some of the work being carried out, off site, on the Boiler. Here is the link (Pics 157 to 180 incl):

Each year, the Shareholder 'Drive & Fire' days coincide with the October 'Volunteer Session' dates, followed by the SLL 'AGM' on the Saturday. I usually travel to Swanage on my own by National Express Coach and work the Volunteer days. This year, however, Mama Wedgy and I decided to make a bit of a 'holiday' of it, so she joined me and we travelled by car to Swanage. Although I was not working this time, I did call into the Works to 'show my face' and say hello to my colleagues there (and to deliver quite a few empty, clean margarine tubs that I had collected from MW and SW, for which our Master Painter is always grateful - for decanting his paint into).

Here is a brief Report on the current progress with 34072:

- Work continues on '257 Squadron' and the long job of rebuilding the Locomotive is now underway, I am pleased to report. Work completed so far (some of the work completed and yet to be installed/fitted) includes: the Rear Pony Truck (underneath the Cab); new Cab sections; steam heating and vacuum pipework; cladding angle sections and the Rear Sandboxes.
- The Restoration work on the Boiler continues at Adam Dalgleish's Works on Teeside, together with the construction of the new Tender (the Tender Frames have been constructed at Herston Works).

Please use the following link, to the Restoration Gallery of the Southern Locomotives Ltd website, for some photos of the latest work (Pics 181 to 187 incl):

https://picasaweb.google.com/1168391414 ... 5234847666

Also, please see the Swanage Railway: SLL 'Drive & Fire' 2013 separate Topic as I will shortly be adding a video of 'Manston' and 'Eddystone' in operation at Swanage at that time.

Yes, 'slowly' is probably the right word! We could really do with some more 'willing hands', in the form of Volunteers and/or (of course) the 'dreaded' money, in the form of donations or Share purchases (with the 'mouth watering' chance to participate in the annual Shareholders' 'Drive & Fire', at Swanage!). But this is the same for Restoration projects, etc. everywhere. We get there in the end! However, there is the 'deadline' of having 'Squadron' ready for the 75th Anniversary of the 'Battle of Britain', in 2015 (having previously been Restored, from 'Scrap Yard' condition, in time for the 50th Anniversary, in 1990).

Although I could not attend the November 'Volunteer Session' at Herston Works, some pics have now been put up on the Southern Locomotives Ltd website. These show just some of the work that was carried out on '257 Squadron'.

The final 'Volunteer Session' of the year took place at, Herston Works, a few days ago (the 'December' Session). I have attached a few pics that have now been put on the Southern Locomotives Ltd website. These show some of the work that was carried out on '257 Squadron' at this time.

Here is the link (Pics 198 to 207 incl:

https://picasaweb.google.com/1168391414 ... 2245004642

Again, I was unable to attend this Session (the last one that I actually managed to attend was in May!). Although I do post the pics from the Sessions I do not attend, I feel that I somewhat let you down by not giving you a personal, 'hands on' Report. In my defence, I thought that I should perhaps tell you that 2013 has not been a very good year for me 'healthwise' (and if you have been following my son Wedgy's running blog, in the build up to his Chester Marathon in October, you will know the reason why). However, 'onwards and upwards', the future looks good and I hope soon to be 'back in harness', at Herston Works, in 2014.

Finally, thank you for your continuing interest in Steam Locomotive Restoration (it is most appreciated) and may I take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year.
