GWR 175 at Didcot... 1-9 May **More Photo's Added**

Postby 350wedge » Sat May 01, 2010 8:31 pm

If anyone is thinking of going to Didcot for GWR 175 then DO IT !!!!

I've been there today for the first day and it was fantastic...13 engines in Steam including a visiting railtour pulled by Earl of Mount Edgcumbe. It was packed today. Busiest I've ever seen it, took over 20 mins in the queue to get in ~x(

Once in though it was superb, everything they could steam of the home fleet was in steam plus several visiting engines. I'll post some pics up here soon although more likely tomorrow. I have some 500 photo's from today to go through. I may go back again on Monday should the weather not be too bad.

Even had a flypast from the Dutch F16 which then went off and did a display over Abingdon way....!!

I am exceedingly jealous 350W! I read all about the planned itinerary in the previous Issue of Steam Railway Magazine, but it sounds even better than that! Unfortunately, I will not be able to get there but am looking forward very much to seeing all your pics.

I was one of the very last to leave yesterday and by that time it was raining and rather horrible... Even so i thought I'd stick around a get a few shots of a nice empty centre after all the engines had been 'disposed' of for the night..

Here is the vew as of about half six last night....

Here is one other photo for now.... I'm working on the others and will either post up later or in the next day or two.

This pic was taken much earlier in the day before the place got really packed!! This shot doesnt include the other 7 engines in steam at the far end of the site and another one on the main demo line !!!

And finally what I think is one of my better shots of the day taken right at the end of the day, the light was really rubbish but in b&w I reckon it looks pretty stunning!!

Enjoy the photos? You bet I did!!! Brilliant. Thank you 350W. (Not as good as actually being there, but your pics definetly convey the 'flavour').

And I suppose ex-RAF types who know the ins and outs of things that fly, their accessories, and gather on forums to deliberate on such, don't need them? :p

I tend to wear either a CAMO jacket or an old flying jacket! Good substitutes for an ANORAK though!

I went back again today... Not sure it was quite as productive as Saturday photo wise... still took over 400 though.

Weather was good apart from a couple of heavy showers. Not as many in steam today but still a fair number...
