I'm off there tomorrow as they will also have the Steam Railcar running and Firefly. Should be a good day if the weather holds!!

Look forward to seeing the pics. Have a good day 350w.

An Important Date for the Diary:-

Wednesday 21st September: 'Tornado' tackles both of the West Coast Main Line's 'Big Hills' ('Shap' and 'Beattock') BOTH ways on the 'Caledonian Tornado', from Crewe to Glasgow Central. This represents around 500 miles of steam in a single day!

Final details ('Timings', etc) will be confirmed in due course.

If you want to be on it, click on the link below (HF Railtours):

If anyone is in the area Tornado will be pulling normal services at the Mid Hants railway this weekend ahead of next weekends Autumn Gala.

Next weekend you will be treated to Tornado, Britannia, Dominion of New Zealand and Wadebridge to name but four Pacifics. There will be five others in steam too :D

Due to pressures with other matters, I have somewhat neglected to keep you informed of 'sorties' by 'Tornado'. However, things do appear to have been rather quiet in this respect anyway.

There is a 'Cathedrals Express' Excursion to Ely and back on Monday 12th December, organised by 'Steam Dreams' and the Route/Timings are on the following link:

http://www.uksteam.info/tours/t11/t1212a.htm

The next Trip is the 'Cathedrals Express' on Saturday 17th December, from Ashford (Kent) to Bath and return. No final Timings as yet, but I will post them as soon as they are released.

The FINAL Main Line Excursion by 'Tornado' for 2011 is tomorrow (Monday 19th December) from Basingstoke to Norwich (via Stevenage and Cambridge) and return (via Cambridge and Broxbourne). The Timings/Route are on the following link:

http://www.uksteam.info/tours/t11/t1219b.htm

(Unfortunately, the 'Kent Coast Tornado' scheduled for Thursday 29th December has been cancelled).

The first Main Line Excursion for 2012 will be on 25th February: 'Help for Heroes'/'The 40th Anniversary Steam Special' (postponed from 8th October 2011). 'Tornado' will be hauling the Birmingham Snow Hill to London Paddington section of the Excursion. I will let you have further details in due course.

Unfortunately, due to 'gauging issues', this (re-scheduled) Excursion has been cancelled. However, a new (replacement) date of 1st March has been set for 'The St David's Day Cathedrals Express & Help For Heroes Special' . This will run from London Paddington to Cardiff (and return) but WILL NOT be hauled by 'Tornado'. The scheduled Locomotive (at the moment) will be 6024 'King Edward 1'.

The first Main Line Excursion for 'Tornado' in 2012 now looks like being 'The Cathedrals Express' on Saturday 10th March, from London Paddington to Taunton (and return) double heading with 71000 'Duke of Gloucester' on the outward run.

That'll be a sight - the Duke and Tornado double heading. Arguably (in my opinion at least) two of the best looking locos around.

Cromwell is back home at the GCR at the moment, looking as fine as ever.

It would be advisable to visit earlier rather than later because:

a) At the moment there are the THREE 'Battle of Britain Class' Bulleids in Herston Works: 2 'original' (34070 'Manston' and 34072 '257 Squadron') and (of course) 1 'rebuilt' (34053 'Sir Keith Park').

b) With certain events for the London 2012 Olympics being held in Weymouth, it's going to be a bit of a 'nightmare' travelling around that area (Bounemouth, Poole, Swanage, Weymouth, etc) later this year!

Visitors are always welcome (Monday to Friday). I will be only too pleased to PM the 'How to find...' details, if required, to anyone who is also interested in paying a visit.

Quick update....... Tornado will now be running on weekend of 25/26th February.

There has been a slight delay with the winter maintenance so running is put back a week. I hadnt actually realised but Tornado is undergoing the winter maintenance at Mid Hants anyway!
