Right now (07:30) it is 54 degrees F which is
12 degrees C, raining and blowing a gale....

One week ago at this time it was minus 11
degrees F (or) minus 24 C (brrrrrrr!!!! :p )
clear as a bell and dead calm....

That's a difference of 65 degrees F (or) 36
degrees C in one week!

And the temperature is rising!

The hard-core meteorologists LUV working
here in Maine because the weather is so
Entertaining :D

I was listening to a school boy from Berkshire living in Massachusetts, he was asked how does the amount snow compare. He said they had had more snow in 15 minutes than he had seen in Berkshire all put together.

Mizzle here this morning.

I have friends in Long Island (NY) and Hartford (Conn), and some of the photos they are posting on Facebook are insane, one had to dig his car out of a snow drift that was up to it's roof :-o

It's hard to say because the snowfall was accompanied
by high winds with gusts to 50 mph and it was a very
light and dry snow.....

Consequently, even with what we got, there were bare
spots and others that had (guessing) 5 or more feet...

Still awaiting the Final Figger for Dear Old Bangor, but
we didn't have it socked to us like Southern New England
did.........

This a shame in a way because we here are so much
better-prepared to deal with multiple feet of snow...

I'm going to guess we had about 16 or more inches, but
warmer temps coming up will shrink the piles by 50% or
more in the next few days....

Not an unusual accumulation, but we just deal with it
and keep moving forward :D

AND our airport never closed :D

Any flights that were cancelled were because the destination
was snowed-in.....

Danf.

ADDENDUM:::::::::::

Final Figger for Bangor is 18.4 inches......

A substantial dump, but nothing like the 30-plus they got in
Massachusetts and Connecticut....

Check out this vid for Bangor's downtown area from about
24 hours ago::::::::

Thanks Dan. That's what you call 'real snow'!!! Not the few inches we get in the UK and which causes utter chaos and disruption to transport. Snow is forecast here overnight; can't wait to see what occurs in the morning. Keep warm!

What we had was a classic one of these::::::::::::

Another storm system occurs when a cold core low over the Hudson Bay area in Canada is displaced southward over southeastern Canada, the Great Lakes, and New England. When the rapidly moving cold front collides with warmer air coming north from the Gulf of Mexico, strong surface winds, a lot of cold air advection, and extensive wintry precipitation occur.

Fortunately, for Bangor, it was centered over
Southern New England and not right over our
heads!!!!!!!

I am still cleaning-up, btw.....

Thank GOD for my plowman Walter :ymapplause:

We left Coningsby at 3pm ish and it was cloudy/misty/cold (2*C) but no snow, we stopped briefly at Budgens in Woodhall and there were spits and spots in the air, had a cup of tea in the woods just up the road and that's when it started really coming down, by the time we got to Fiskerton we couldn't see, it was as close to a blizzard as I've seen :-o The snow was horizontal.
And by the time we got to our front door there was a good couple of inches, there was a nice drift up against the door step :))
And it's still doing that really fine kind of snow.
