Help with FS9 or FSX Multiplayer

Postby Yorkie » Wed Jan 13, 2010 3:41 pm

Ok. I'll start with I'm reasonably IT literate, but I cannot get multiplayer to work on FS2004 or FSX.

FSHOST - Windows 7 64bit blocks port 80 (I think) it just won't connect. It used to work on xp, I'm running FS9 at the mo as my dvd for FSX broke :( so awaiting a decent download.

I don't know how to configure windows firewall, and don't have a second firewall running except the hardware one on the router. (I have told windows firewall to allow fshost)

I really want to try it again as i only had a 4 meg line before so was a little slow, my 50 meg (1.5 meg up) line should do just fine!

Any help would be appreciated.

FSX has its own inbuilt multi-player gizmo, "GameSpy" - aka GameShite as it is notorious for not connecting ~x(

FSHostClient is normally very reliable, even if it does make the gameplay a little jumpy

you need to have a server IP address for the latter too

Given I am one of the few simmers who have Win7 too ... just tried it myself.

FSHost works fine with FSX on Win7 with the std windows firewall.

The only trouble I have with FSHost is sometimes my router needs a reboot first to free up the ports ;)

Thanks will try rebooting the router. and then trying, It just kept saying the port 80 was blocked. I assumed it was a windows 7 thing as it used to work on xp. But saying that I have updated firmware on router and The hardware firewall.

Will play tomorrow or over the weekend, now i have FSX back.

Thanks

Is anyone else running FSX in Vista Premium?

If so, does your system change the colour scheme to Vista Basic when launching FSX?

It changes the colour scheme in vista and Windows 7 to basic but that doesnt make a hell of a lot of difference that I can see .

On the connection issue I never run Windows firewall it's a total waste of time my router has a hardware one built in and have never had to do anything to that either to use FSX online Runs fine on a bog standard Toshy L350 laptop as well no graphics problems .One of the issues I found a long time ago running any Flight sim was anti virus programs like Maccafee and norton They kept crashing it so again got rid of those many years ago.
