I was going to ask if it was something to do with service tunnels for the London underground but I guess not then



second question is it something to do with an Ammunitions factory

Very much related to munitions Pam. Bit before our time though as it was built back when we didn't like our neighbours across the channel (was that in the past? /:)).

I'll give it to you Jim. It's the North Tunnel, leading to the main magazine, at Fort Nelson on Portsdown Hill above Portsmouth. One of the Palmerston Forts intended to keep those pesky Frenchies out. The conveyor on the left was added during WW2 when the fort was used for storing the AA shells for this area.
