No worries Dan. I've been reading about these aces and WW1 since I was a kid including a lot of autobiography's so I have a fairly good knowledge base to work from. I'm not looking to get inside these guys heads, it's more a tribute to them. These guys were flying and fighting in aircraft not that long after the Wright Brothers first flew. Their machines were fragile, keeping them in the air was a task in itself without having to concentrate on some other guy trying to kill you. WW1 in the air is a fascinating subject.

Cheers,

Terry

Just finished this one for a competition on the Cold War.

MIG-21MF ("Fishbed-J") of the soviet Air force which visited France in 1971 along with five others for an aerobatic display.

My Big Problem with Russian Aircraft is
they stole everything from both YOU and
US! There isn't an original aspect or idea
in that fighter, and I'd wager TOO MANY
test pilots lost their lives getting it operational...........

THERE! I've Said it!

On the other hand, your rendition is worthy
of praise. You do Very Good Work, Terry........

I always enjoy your stuff, and it surprised me
a little to see something more modern......

My Dad, God Bless Him, always said to keep
everyone off-balance and guessing!!!!!

Thanks guys :) . I'm not normally a jet man but I'm beginning to see the attraction of these machines and can see a few more being painted.

Cheers,

Thanks ActionArt, will do :)

Finally managed to finish the Camel painting, in between working on those jets. Been a bit of a busy boy :)

Based on a combat from the book "Winged Victory" (page 218) a very thinly disguised autobiography by W. V Yeates of his time in 46 Squadron in 1918.

"Tom got one more or less in his Aldis and went in with a long burst, turning onto it's tail. The thing reared up in front of him in a sort of upward roll"

Very nice Terry, looks fantastic. You really should win with that. But don't feel bad if you don't. I don't know about where you are but around hear it's sadly far less about skill and far more about who you know etc.

This is a winner either way. Best of luck!

Thanks mate I really appreciate that :)
Sometimes I feel like one of those people who appear on talent shows, those who clearly can't sing. Their friends must have told them they had talent and off they go to show everybody else. I've never had bad comments on my work but I do start to have doubts and get confused as to what is good and what isn't when I put a piece forward I've worked hard on and I'm very pleased with, only to find it getting ignored in favour of a rough pencil sketch. I'm starting to get used to that. It has been a real tonic posting work on here :)

Cheers,
Terry

I agree 100% with Dave on this....

Your images are striking and well
thought-out with a wonderful eye
for the little details.

You'll notice, though, I haven't asked
you to paint a Constellation.....

YET!

Thanks guys :)
A Lockheed Constellation you say, what a gorgeous looking aircraft and a must.
Since working on the MiG-21 and the Vulcan I've got a bit smitten with Jet aircraft, an Harrier is definitely on the cards as is another Vulcan.
At the moment I'm working on a tribute to Jon Egging and the Red Arrows. I'm hoping to send the finished painting to his widow. I'll post an image of it as soon as it's done.
In the meantime, I've reworked the original Sopwith Pup. I tried the Albatros at different angles but settled for something similar. I think this works better. All comments welcome of course.

Pup A7327 of Capt S H Pratt, 46 Sqn.
Stuart Harvey Pratt was an seven victory ace. His first two were scored whilst flying a Nieuport two seater of which 46 sqn were operating with at that time. He scored the other five whilst flying the Sopwith Pup depicted in the painting.
In June 1917 he was badly injured following a crash during gunnery practice at Herne Bay in Pup B1773. He lost his right eye and left foot and was invalided out of service.
Capt Pratt received just one Mention in Despatches and was never put forward for any decorations.

I'm convinced it's way Terrys paintings catch the light, it just lifts the painting of the canvass.
