Beautiful, Terry!

The overall effect is superb, but it's
the Details that really make it fine!

Have you titled it?

Sorry for the late response, been having PC problems and had to get a new one. Don't know if any body knows much about these things but amongst other things, it kept switching itself off, wouldn't update windows and ran at a snails pace. Spent far too much time and money on it. Very frustrating :(
Thank you for your comments on my art work, I will post some more asap.
The Lancaster was taken from a photograph, I adapted the colours etc. to reflect the sunset as it was a daylight shot.
The wings were clipped so I added them also. The photo appears in the book "Lancaster, A Bombing legend" ( Osprey classic Aircraft) published 1993.
The sunset was my own creation, hence it being fairly basic ;)

The title of the painting is "Merlin's At Sunset"

Thanks

Terry

This is one I did last year but wasn't too happy with it. I painted the Albatross a little too far over the left and in an attempt to put it right cocked the whole painting up. Fortunately I photographed it prior to doing that but not with a very good camera. I intend to redo it at some point but thought I would post it to see what others might think.

Art is very subjective and I always wonder how one knows to stop painting - It looks superb to my eye and 'in balance' so why do you think it's to far over to the left?

Sorry for the questions but this type of thing really interests me.

worst critic!

I like it, too, btw.

Thanks, TJ........

No problem Mayfly, thanks for the question.
Sometimes it's difficult to put a finger on something that to your own eye doesn't look quite right. I keep coming back to this one to figure out what it was that bothered me.
I was fairly sure it was the Albatros but now I'm beginning to think it could also be the clouds are too light behind the Sopwith Pup. It's always a fine balancing act. I think if the Albatros was a bit closer to the Pup and the clouds pushed back with a little blue it would have all sat together better. The horizon line would have been better tilting the opposite way too, nothing too difficult to sort out. I'm beginning to regret making a mess of this one as it seems there wasn't too much wrong with it in the first place and certainly nothing that couldn't have been sorted, I remember getting very frustrated at the time and attacking it to the point of no return. The truth is, I think I just got far too critical.
It's not a complete waste though, I can use what I learned from this for the next one. It might a good idea to do it as WIP and get some input as I go along. Shame I didn't do that with this one :(

Cheers,

Terry

Sometimes you get a bit too close and just need to walk away for a while. As you say we are always learning.

Hi,
Thank you for your comments with the last piece. I hope to be redoing it at some point now I realize it wasn't as bad as I thought, definitely a case of wood and trees.
This is one I didn't mess up :)
